GMC Greater Midwest Classics
From The President – Bob Miller
November already---wow. Where did summer and fall go?
Hello to members and friends. I hope this finds everyone well and getting ready
for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We had a great fall rally in conjunction with
the GMCMI rally at the Amana Colonies in Iowa. I know many attended as several
club members were assisting GMCMI. Thanks to everyone who helped with parking,
meal cleanup, and other jobs. Once again our club excelled at helping GMCMI with
a Midwest area rally.
Our club meeting of Monday, September 17, was preceded by a meal of stack-ups, again prepared by Midge Glenna, and assisted by many other ladies of our club. Thank you, and especially Midge, for your work in making a much enjoyed meal. Our official business included electing a new club secretary, Sue Witwer, who succeeds June McGrath. Dean Witwer was elected as chairman of the nominating committee succeeding Bob Miesarchik---who has been chairman for several years. Thank you June and Bob. Bob has graciously agreed to remain on the nominating committee as he has been invaluable in getting talented people to serve in various positions. The other important event that took place at Amana was finding a new newsletter editor. As most of you know, Sherry Moore has been our newsletter editor for three years and has done an excellent job including getting us online to receive the newsletter by e-mail if we so desire. You may also remember that she told me this spring that she was ready to step aside as editor. It is not something that most people want to do for a long term due to the required time involved. It is my pleasure to announce that Jane Hasek will become newsletter editor beginning in 2008. Jane is uniquely qualified and I want to thank her for accepting this important position. Please give her any help she may need while learning the position. On behalf of everyone in the club, I wish to say a heartfelt Thank You to Sherry Moore who has worked hard to make our newsletter what it is today. Great job Sherry!!! Please give her your thanks the next time you see her.
I believe that everyone who attended the fall rally had a good time as there were a many activities scheduled at the GMCMI rally. Our club continues to gain in membership. We added several members during the rally---people in our area that did not know of us prior to the rally or were new GMC owners. Welcome new members. I know you will find that we have a great club because the members themselves give the club its personality. (Editor’s note: We have some fascinating members from various backgrounds and unusual experiences with a zest for living and exploring the world, sometimes in their GMC’s.)
Christma Christmas Party to be hosted by Lowell Olsen in Albert Lea ( See the end of the newsletter for details )
The next event for the club is the Christmas party hosted by Lowell Olsen in Albert Lea, Minnesota. You remember Lowell who owns five coaches but drives his car to rallies! The holiday party will be similar to last year and if you missed it then, try to make it this year as the “King” (Lowell) puts on a fun party. Thanks for agreeing to do this again this year, Lowell, as I know all of us really enjoyed last year’s event.
I am happy to report that our club continues to be in great
shape both financially and from a membership prospective. This is due mainly to
our past officers, and especially Dean Witwer who organized things in
such a manor as to make my job very easy. I am looking forward to next summer
and some exciting things that Chief Wagon Master Howard Glenna has planed
for our rallies.
One of our former members, Norma Moses, has donated a tool to the club that her husband Darcy made. The tool is designed to change the hinge pins in our motor home doors so that we can take the slack out of worn pins by replacing them. As many of you know, Darcy Moses was ingenious at building things to help us maintain our coaches and we certainly miss him. Thank you so much Norma for giving the tool to our club. With this donation, we are going to start a club tool chest with unique tools that members can “check out” and use for a period of time. Presently, I have the door hinge pin tool and you can contact me if you want to use it. We are going to set up some guidelines on how we can run our club tool chest so that people will have a chance to check out a tool for a reasonable period of time and then return it for the next person. If you have any ideas on this please contact me or Howard Glenna. You may also have a tool that you may want to donate to the club and we will be happy to accept that as well. Maybe Bob Drewes will donate the wheel alignment tool he made (just kidding Bob.)
Lastly, I want to thank everyone who contributed this year to making our club successful. There are too many people to mention but we know who you are and without you we could not continue, so thanks again for you time and efforts. Have a great holiday season and keep those GMC’s rolling.
From Vice President - Howard Glenna, Chief Wagon Master,

Editor’s Note: Be one of the many individuals that give of their time to keep our GMC’s and club rolling along. I have enjoyed my years as newsletter editor and thank former editor, Joe Mott, who encouraged me and patiently helped me to learn, along with Merv Vatland, Sandi Renk, Bob Drewes each who maintain meticulous address and email records, Bob Miller and Dean Witwer---who insisted we needed an electronic newsletter and Howard Glenna who graciously smooth's the way as Chief Wagon Master. What a great group of people the Greater Midwest Classics are! I know that new editor Jane Hasek will do a great job of keeping you informed. I returned from China on October 23 and absolutely know without any doubt that this is the greatest country in the world. Macau is well on the way to becoming the Las Vegas of Asia. I will long remember sunset and the night view of Hong Kong Harbor.
Midge Glenna is sunshine lady so send her the name of anyone needing a little sunshine and Midge will send them a card. Vice President Howard Glenna is always interested in locations and ideas for 2008 rallies. Share your ideas or volunteer to be a wagon master.
