News From Da’ Prez !! Lucy Weidner Greetings to all of you –
Well folks, we’ve had lots of exciting things happen since we last chatted. We had 2 great summer rallies, one in Fairmont, MN hosted by the Gen’s, one in DeSota, WI hosted by the Hasek’s and our last one was at the Amana Colonies, IA when we co-hosted the 30th Anniversary GMCMI rally. We had a great parking crew and big kudos to them for making folks happy. We had 25 Midwest Classics coaches down there, along with folks who stayed in offsite accommodations. We welcomed some new members to our group: Mark Kasiewiez and Dawn Koepp, Eau Claire, WI, John Weimer, Wall Lake, IA, Larry and Tammy Northup, Cedar Rapids, IA, Roger and Rachel Stearns, Hutchinson, MN, and Steve and Lauralynn Southworth, Palmyra, WI. We also welcome David & Karen Roberts as new members. Our club hosted the Ladies Social with the Dr. Seuss theme. All of the items were donated to the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital, Iowa City, IA... We received a wonderful thank you note from them expressing how delighted the children were with everything. They said we brought many smiles and sparkles to their eyes. A job well done by everyone!
The Amana Colony area is a wonderful place to visit. The campground is located right next to a live theater playhouse and some of the members got to see a hilarious production of “A Fox on the Fairway”. We had barnyard games, lots of local history to check out, many crafts, Teri Gregg and her Geocache experience, windshields were put in coaches and of course open houses. We had many community members come to the open house and check us out. Pancake breakfast, omelet breakfast, chili, catered meals, and a cooking demonstration kept many of us well fed. These rallies are always a success because of the people who spend a week together, talking “tech”, seminars both technical and non-technical, and overall creating a spirit of community. We all come with our stories, but ultimately it’s the people that make this group fun to be around.
A note about FMCA. They will no longer offer coverage for Medical Evacuations. They now have a program called FMCA Assist, which offers coverage for singles at $85.and $105 for family. You can check for more information in the FMCA magazine or contact John Smyrski. He is the GMCMI National Director to FMCA.
In honor of the 30th Anniversary, we presented wooden trivets to the ladies who attended the Ladies Social. They were imprinted with GMCMI, an outline of the coach and 1982-2012. The wood was cut to size and donated by Joe Johnson and the Weidner’s did the finishing work. In the end, all attendees went home with this commemorative trivet. I have 7 trivets left and if any club member would like one please let me know ASAP so I can get it to you before we leave for winter. You can go to the Greater Midwest Classics website, or the GMCMI website for a photo of what they look like.
We also have club-clothing merchandise for sale. We have sweatshirts, fleece vests, lightweight jackets, heavier jackets, t-shirts, baseball caps, and visors. If I get enough of an order on jackets, then we’ll have them imprinted. It’s more cost effective to get things done in lots of 12. Lightweight jackets are $25. heavy weight jackets are $55. and vests are $35. The club merchandise will be at our next spring rally. Yvonne Miller and the Hasek’s are working on next spring/summer rallies and we have some exciting new places to see.
At the International rally, Larry Weidner was voted to serve on the Board of Directors as the Vice President of the Midwest Area, and I was voted to serve on the Board as Secretary. We’ll be able to keep everyone up to date on what’s happening on the International level. The Spring GMCMI rally will take place in Dothan, Alabama, March 22 to March 28, 2013 and the Fall rally will be at the KOA Campground in Branson, MO September 20 to 26, 2013.
Our final event for the year was a huge success. Thirty-one folks gathered in Menomonie, WI for a catered dinner in the Gallery at the Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts. Tours were given for those who had never been to see this beautiful Historic Theater. Following social hour and dinner, we gathered in the theater for a “Tribute to Patsy Cline” with Colleen Raye and her group. One of the highlights of the evening was Colleen sneakily pulling Larry Weidner up on stage to “yodel”. Surprisingly he knew the words to the song and he did an outstanding job! I thoroughly enjoyed the moment!
In closing, this is my last newsletter as your President. I have been privileged to serve as your Vice-President and then President these past 4 years. Yvonne Miller will assume the Presidency on January 1st, 2013. And I know she will do an excellent job. Thanks to Larry Johnson for his steady hand on the finances and Jane Hasek for her great service as our Newsletter Editor. Margaret Biwersi will take over the Newsletter and continue on in fine tradition. The Nominating Committee will need at least one new member to replace Randy Johnson. Howard Glenna and I will continue to serve on the committee. Please give this some consideration or suggest someone. I thank all of you for your support and good ideas that help to keep this wonderful club moving forward. We are “Still the Best”!! A Message From The Vice President—Yvonne Miller
A big thank you to Gens and Haseks for the spring and summer rallies. What makes a successful rally is the enthusiasm of the coach owners and the comradely of the members!!!!!! Also great planning of the wagon masters. Our fall rally was held in conjunction with the international rally in the Amana Colonies, IA. We had a good turnout for our club meeting and we had several new members join. We hope to see the new members at the 2013 rallies. Please come and enjoy learning more about your coach and make new friends!!!
Spring Rally 2013:
This rally will be May 31 and June 1st & 2nd, 2013. It will be a “working” rally held at Steve Rasmussens in Northfield, MN. Bob and Yvonne Miller and John Biwersi will be the wagon masters. Bob Miller will be the contact person. Don’t worry ladies, if you don’t want to work on your coach there will be activities planned !!! Further details will be in the Spring newsletter.
I will be taking over as President of the club in January. Wayne Hasek will be the Vice President. He will be in charge of rallies. If you have any ideas for rallies please let Wayne or Yvonne know. I want to thank all of you who helped me with our Newsletter the past 5 years. The newsletter is only as good as the news people submit. I think it is very important to keep communications open and members informed via the newsletter. Suggestions and information are always welcome. One suggestion is that we have “tech” articles in the newsletter. We need suggestions for topics and volunteers to submit articles. Good luck to Margaret Biwersi as the new Newsletter Editor.
