   PRESIDENT’S LETTER;
    Hi to all the Greater Midwest Classics members. We just returned from our all-school reunion in Sykeston, ND and our coach ran beautifully.

   Our first working rally was a huge success in spite of all the rain during the rally. Steve Rasmussen’s garage was great for working on the coaches and just hanging out. Thank you Steve for hosting our group. I think the guys would really like another working rally next year!!! Dave and Mary Lenzi were our guests, and in fact, Dave was our leader in checking front end alignments on the coaches. As most of you know, Dave is an expert on the mechanics of the GMC coaches and also provides us with many improved parts to keep our coaches running. We would like to thank Dave and Mary for driving all the way from Michigan to be with us. In short, I think it is safe to say a good time was had by all.

   I hope you can attend the August rally in Rochester MN (see article later in this newsletter). It is a great way to get to know other club members. Remember, if you are a new club member you are entitled to free nametags that should be worn during the rallies. For information and ordering, contact Lucy Weidner.

   See you in August or Branson in September. GMCMI The Fall rally is in Branson, Missouri, Sept. 20-26, 2013 at the KOA. Reservations by August 16. Check their website for more info. www.gmcmi.com  The Midwest Classics meeting will be Monday Sept. 23. More information to follow.

WORKING RALLY REPORT FROM THE COUPLE WHO SLEPT ON THE RACK!
    The following is a letter written by Mark Kasiewicz and Dawn Koepp;
The rumors turned out to be true ! The working rally was going to happen. Dawn and I were astounded by yet another example of the terrific GMC community spirit. As we tried to manage our busy schedules, one thing was for sure, even if our coach was not worked on, we chiseled these dates in stone! I expected to help out, turn a few wrenches and learn from all the assembled expertise. As the date grew nearer, we found out that Greater Midwest Classics was prepared to install Dave Lenzi's upper control arm "jewelry". We were thrilled ! Dawn had been hesitant to drive our '77 Kingsley due to road wander and float. Our hope was that this could make enough difference to make her comfortable behind the helm of our land yacht. Boy, were we in for a surprise !
   Arriving and greeting everyone was fun enough. Then we saw Steve's shop, and understood the generosity of his gift! Right up on the lift we went and immediately the surgical team took an undercarriage walk-about and dug in. Larry, Bob, John and Dave comprised the main team with a host of consulting physicians gathered around in the operating theater. I hardly could get in there to turn a wrench! As worried "parents" we watched helplessly as the list of complications grew for our beloved one. A bad wheel bearing (a rare condition called a "Wallace Bearing" required a biopsy and dissection involving a sawzall and sledgehammer, drew a (Standing Room Only crowd), chassis grinding to make room for the additional caster, a new disc rotor and ultimately a new steering spline and shaft were all taken in stride and tackled with aplomb.
    Dawn and I were our coaches constant companion never leaving it's side, during it's three days succession of corrective surgeries. We even got to stay two nights up on the lift. Our strangest campsite ever ! Monday, the final day of the rally, came fast. After an alignment, the time had come to let our coach "strut her stuff". A test ride to "burn out bridge" for a little physical therapy (seat those brake pads and adjust the steering), was approached with the anxious anticipation of improvement.
   What we got instead was a miracle ! This was a whole new machine. No more white-knuckled turns and heart stopping drifts off the shoulder. I could actually take curves at posted speeds and even drive one handed. Dawn and I can not say "thank you !"enough for the hard work, sweat, generosity and enthusiasm of everyone at Greater Midwest Classics. We hope that we can express our gratitude by helping other members in the same way in the future. We are in Awe ! Mark Kasiewicz and Dawn Koepp Eau Claire, WI.

This is a letter from Dave & Mary Lenzi;
    To The Greater Midwest Classics; I am in the process of sending a personal thank you to Steve Rasmusson , but wanted to also thank the members of your club for allowing Mary and I to be a part of your very unique and enjoyable work rally. It may be appropriate to read this message to your membership at your next rally.
    Mary and I wanted to attend this rally for many reasons. One of which is that we have come to know, and enjoy spending time with many of the “CLASSICS” membership. Another is that I respect the Abilities, and enjoy working with the knowledgeable people in your club. The opportunity to see, and work in Steve’s shop also meant a lot to me. Mary and I have said many times that if we did not have a GMC motorhome, we probably would not have one.
     The GMC is what brings us together, but the extraordinary people that own these old girls is what keeps us together. We also recognized that as we grew OLDER, our circle of friends was getting smaller, until the GMC. We have increased our friends across the country many times over since we started traveling with the GMC. This is one of the reasons that I enjoy making parts, helping all GMC owners, and being a part of a rally like yours. I hope that your membership understands that we did not have enough time to inspect everyone’s coach, but there is always next year ???? Again, Mary and I want to thank you for inviting us to join you at Steve’s shop. Your good friends, Dave And Mary Lenzi
