November 2009 Newsletter

From The President – Howard “Howie” Glenna

I am going to start with our next event the CHRISTMAS PARTY DECEMBER 12, 2009 IN ROCHESTER, MINNESOTA.  We will meet in the Rochester Senior Citizens Center from 1:30 – 5 pm.  This is our last chance to see each other this year and it is guaranteed to shorten the winter if you attend.  Hope to see you there.  If you have had the pleasure of being part of any thing that Bob and Marie Mesarchik have done you know this will be something to look forward to.  You do not want to miss the party.

The Fall 2009 Rally in Menomonie was outstanding and fun for all.  Larry and Lucy Weidner did an outstanding job of creating a memorable and fun Rally.  We had 27 coaches with several new members in attendance.  I will not list all of the great things we did for fear of making those that did not attend feel badly; but the theater, bike trails, trout farm are just a few of the fun things we did.

It came to my attention that at one of our Rally’s we should discuss some of the common mistakes we have made servicing and taking care of our GMC’s.  For example how many of us have either jacked up our coach or have had some one do this incorrectly.  Think about helpful items we can share with each other and in particular our newest owners.

I would like to share a little of our adventure going to the GMC Motorhomes International Convention in Pueblo, Colorado.  We caravanned our way there and for a good part of the trip we had eight coaches.  All the coaches and their occupants held together very well.  Jim and Anita White hosted us the first night and then led us to the Harold Warp museum in Minden, Nebraska for a two night stay.  The third night was in a beautiful state park in Kansas.  I will not get into a long discussion on the events at the International Rally except to say I am still learning about our GMC’s.   One event stands out for our club and we have Lucy Weidner to thank.  Lucy put together a skit about our GMC motorhomes that brought the house down.  One line from the show was:  Why are GMC motorhomes called boats?  Answer:  It stands for B-O-A-T or BRING OUT ANOTHER THOUSAND.

We also found someone who could teach the women in our group how to drive a GMC motorhome.  Sandi Renk drove her coach to the Pueblo Colorado Rally and back through some challenging wind and road conditions.  However, she needs a few lessons on leading.  I let her lead us the last five miles to her mother’s farm and she led us down a closed road that required backing up past the barricades we had gone around.

In closing our 2009 newsletter, remember our Spring Rally for 2010 will be in Sioux Falls, South Dakota with Bob and Marlys Drewes and others in the area being our wagon masters.  Stay tuned for more information.  Also we need help on next years rallies.  The Greater Midwest Classics had a fun year because we all helped make it happen.  Let’s keep it going!

From Vice President – Lucy Weidner
